The Department of Paediatrics organized the International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) on February 15thhighlighting the need for concerted global efforts to address the growing challenge posed by this disease and to raise awareness about it. The program was organized basically to create awareness about curability of childhood cancers in association with CAN KIDS in which some cancer survivors and their parents gave talks and a dance performance.
Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof A A Mahdi inaugurated the program and focused on the slogan of ICCD "No More Pain" and "No More Loss" for children with cancer and their families. He pledged Era University full support and cooperation to achieve this goal. He added that at Eras University would envision the day when there is "No More Pain" and "No More Loss" for all children with cancer regardless of where they live in the world. Prof. Mahdi praised the efforts of Prof. Archana Kumar, of the Department of Paediatrics in the area of Childhood Cancer.
Prof MMA Faridi, Dean & Principal and Dr. Anoop Bajpai, President Lucknow Academy of Paediatrics also spoke on the occasion.
Prof. Shrish Bhatnagar, HoD, Paediatrics in his welcome speech said that in India about 45 to 50 thousand children get cancer every year but only 20- 30% receive treatment and survival rates are much lower ranging from 20 to 60% in those treated.
There was a talk on childhood cancers and their early diagnosis for doctors and nurses by Prof. Archana Kumar. Cancer survivor children and their parents shared their experiences on the occasion in the fight against cancer. They all appreciated the efforts of Prof. Archana Kumar in not only treating them but also supporting them emotionally to fight against the dreaded disease.
The program was attended by Lucknow Academy of Paediatrics Secretary Dr. Abhishek Bansal, faculty of Department of Paediatrics including Dr. Chavvi Nanda, Dr. Sumiya Shamshi, Dr. Pranjali Saxena, Residents, and staff nurses and paramedical involved in the care of children.
