The OBG department is one of the six speciality nursing departments running in Era College of Nursing. The department provides training and education to the students regarding the care of the mothers during the antenatal, intranatal and postnatal period as well as the care of newborn babies. It also deals with teaching the students regarding the early identification and care of mothers and babies at high risk.
The aim of the department is to impart quality education and skill training to all the students enrolled in ANM, GNM, Post basic B.Sc. Nursing, BSc Nursing and MSc Nursing program. The department has a well-equipped skill lab with all the requisite models and simulators as per the guidelines of Indian Nursing Council. Students are trained with the skills required in the skill lab with simulators and then posted for the clinical.
We have dedicated and trained faculty in simulation for training our students. The department encourages to conduct research in core areas of reproductive health, normal and high risk pregnancy, labour and delivery and postnatal period as well as related to normal and high risk newborns.
From time to time the department conducts workshops, seminars, hands on skill for both the students as well as for the faculties to enhance their clinical competencies and to keep them up to date with the latest trends in OBG Nursing. Students are also encouraged to participate in various co-curricular activities related to OBG such as celebration of various health days, conducting outreach programs such as school health programs, mass health awareness programs in both rural areas as well as in hospital.
The department thus provides experiential learning and opportunities for academic growth and personal development for all our students in this period of globalization and rapidly changing educational demand.
